We are going with the Giants tonight in a pitching match up of Doug Davis vs. Johnathan Sanchez.
Sanchez has a 3.18 ERA over his last 3 and a 3.63 ERA at home this year, but that's not why I'm taking the Giants here today. Fact of the matter is the Diamondbacks have not proven they can hit LHP. In their last 10 they are hitting just .193 and scoring 2.41/9 vs. LHP. On the road the Diamondbacks are hitting .207 and scoring just 3.23 R/9 on the road vs. LHP this year. They are 3-14 in their last 17 road games vs. a LH starters. They are 10-25 in their last 35 as a road dog and 0-7 in their last 7 road games with Davis on the hill vs. a winning team. Davis has been solid in fact he was winning on the road as of late. In his last two starts on the road he went 12 innings gave up 6 H and 2 ER with 15K's and 8 BB's. Dbacks strike out the 2nd most of any team and they are #13 in BB so this translates well for Davis as I expect him to have more control at home and I think he will continue his hot streak of K's.
Davis will go for the Dbacks and he has had some bright spots this season, but not so much on the road with a 3-5 record and a 4.46 ERA not terrible but not great he has allowed 28 runners in 18 IP in three starts vs. the Giants with 23 coming from hits. The Giants have struggled a bit, but at home they are still hitting LHP better than RHP. Giants are 7-2 in their last 9 home games vs. LH starter. I'm confident the Giants bats will come alive here and force Davis out of the game leading to Diamondbacks poor bullpen of 4.59 ERA on the road. So sit back and enjoy another Late Night Fix last night we lost on an error and a walk off home run by the Mariners tonight we think we have a better bet.
